Catholic High Connections

Catholic High School for Boys defies  typical definitions. It is to be expected that an above-par Catholic high school could help realize some of its students' dreams of attending Catholic universities such as Notre Dame, St. Louis University, or Marquette (which CHS has), but CHS graduates attend many other colleges and universities as well. Every year, more than 97% of Catholic High graduates attend a four-year university. Many students choose Arkansas campuses, such as UA-Fayetteville, UCA, and Hendrix, and those schools recognize the education and character of a Catholic High boy. Many prestigious universities also recognize those traits, however, and CHS boys have found themselves accepted by schools such as the military academies, Boston University, Stanford, Chicago University, and Yale.

"Meat and Potatoes" Academics

To quote the CHS profile, "Catholic High School, selective in admissions, offers only college preparatory courses. None of these courses, no matter how  advanced or difficult, is labeled ‘Honors’ or ‘Advanced’ because of our conviction that such labels promote an intellectual elitism, and because those students in courses not so labeled are disposed to believe they are inferior and that less is expected of them."

That being said, we believe it is our duty to provide every boy with challenging, rigorous academics. To aid us in our challenge, we employ the "old" grading scale in which a 70% is the lowest passing mark and a 93% is the lowest possible A. Besides, despite not offering those "advanced" classes, our boys score higher than state averages on standardized tests, and 90% of our students who take an AP exam score a three or higher (thereby earning college credit), supporting Father Tribou's argument that boys need a thorough "MP" education more than an AP class.  So, without further ado, here's our Four-Year Program.

The Unseen Yet Ever-Present Teacher

But Catholic High isn‘t just about academics. It is also about Jesus Christ, and CHS offers boys the kind of spiritual atmosphere that they need to stay well-grounded in today's world. At CHS, boys learn about Christ, his Church, and what a real man is: a man of integrity and faith who is a good father, husband, and steward of the gifts God has given him.
