Religion

The Religion department understands its task, first and foremost, to be to introduce our students to the person of Jesus Christ, the Lord revealed through Scripture and the magisterial teachings of the Church, and learned to be loved through the same and the writings and examples of the saints over the millennia. To that end, our approach is both catechetical and evangelical. With our lectures, our readings, and our assignments, we offer the students knowledge of Christ and his Church, and by our lives we seek to show the joy of the Gospel.body_academics_religion2

We want our boys to have a relationship with the Lord, but they must know who he is, so we give them facts and information about the Faith, particularly in their freshman and sophomore years, and then we help them to grow spiritually as they delve into more difficult topics, such as vocations, marriages, social justice, and questions of morality, in their junior and senior years when they are preparing to head out into the world. Our goal is to be a conduit through which God can work to prepare our boys to bring his blessings to the world.

While these classes are obviously taught from the perspective of Catholic theology, boys from all faith traditions attend Catholic High. Their questions and comments are respected and provide for a healthy, open and lively discussion of faith. Teachers respect the students’ questions and comments which provides for a healthy, open, and lively discussion of faith.
