Boys' State is an event that takes place each summer on the campus of the University of Central Arkansas in Conway. The event is hosted by the American Legion for boys across the entire state entering their senior year of high school. In order for a delegate to attend, he must first be nominated by a person who believes that he has the right qualities of leadership and an interest in politics and government. The event lasts for one week in which the delegates listen to speeches delivered by prominent speakers such as politicians and successful businessmen. The delegates are then able to run for offices spanning from city council to the Governor of Boys' State. At the end of the week, the delegates take a trip to the Capitol in Little Rock where the elected delegates take part in mock Senate and House of Represenative Sessions. Boys' state offers boys the opportunity to learn about politics, while at the same time, form new bonds with other boys from across the state.
