Marine Corps JROTC

The MCJROTC prgram is composed of freshman, sophomores, juniors, and seniors.  Most students have heard about the MCJROTC and know what it is but do not know what it means.  These letters stand for Marine Corps Junior Reserve Officers' Training Corps.  The students in this elective learn the history of the Marine Corps, leadership skills, how to be a good citizen and with how to dress appropriately in uniform.  Each Monday morning, MCJROTC Cadets arrive at school no later than 7:00.  At this time, Cadet Officers perform uniform inspections of junior Cadets.  Cadets give up their study halls three days a week to head beneath the back gym to be schooled in the Marine Corps way.  Sometimes the Cadets are also required to give up their lunch study hall in order to help out in unit functions like practice with the Drill Team (armed and unarmed)/Color Guard in preparation for drill competitions with other schools. MCJROTC also provides Cadets with the opportunity to perform community service after school hours. Cadets also take a few weeks out of the year to go to the shooting range to obtain accuracy with rifles.

Both Colonel Ferral and SgtMaj Jernigan teach MCJROTC.  Cadets also get a grade every nine weeks based upon tests, inspections, community service, participation in Drill Team and other unit activities along with other tasks performed throughout the year.  All of the students work hard to obtain a good grade and to achieve the prestigious honor of a promotion and being a United States Marine Corps Junior Reserve Officers' Training Corps Cadet at Catholic High School !
